All In A Day's Work
Location: USS Excalibur, Deck 1, Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: Mission Day 3 at 2240
The ship was still docked, it was a late night, and Anthony wanted to get some shut-eye, he hated being awake at this hour, he needed some time to just close his eyes and sleep. Still, with an hour left in the docking and engineering, he had to be awake for any updates. The good news was that the engineering teams actually were ahead of schedule and were due to be completed in the next twenty minutes, so that was something good.
Most of the crew were still helping out with getting all the people and cargo off the ship, but even that was slowing down, so it was all coming along swimmingly. He even had met a couple of the crew who were joining the Excalibur as crew members. He was finally about to just pull the plug and go and sleep when his yeoman walked in; “Sir, two new transfers. One is here to meet you”.
“Great, send them in” he replied.
It took Artorius a few moments to stow his belongings in his quarters then make his way to the bridge. He walked to the nearest turbolift at a medium pace. He wanted to take in the environment. The Ascension class was a new model and he barely had time to read any type of specs on the ship, which would be something he'd have to look into when he was more settled in.
Even the ride in the turbolift seemed somehow quicker. He chalked it down to the newer technology installed on a newer vessel. As soon as the doors opened he was greeted with a panoramic view of the Excalibur's bridge. Before he even had time to adjust he was greeted by a junior officer.
"Welcome aboard. How may I help you?"
"Is the Captain around?" Artorius asked politely.
The yeoman smiled. "This way please." Artorius immediately followed the yeoman to the Captain's office. After a few short words, exchanged Artorius entered, standing at attention, introducing himself.
"Lieutenant JG Artorius S'harien. Reporting for duty Captain." He greeted.
"Welcome, come on in, have a seat. Would you like a drink?" he asked, heading over to the replicator.
Artorius did as instructed. Walking directly towards one of the two seats across from the captain's desk in the ready room.
"Thank you kindly." He replied. "I'll have whatever you will." Romulan Ale was still illegal, and truthfully, it might have been too early for synth ale.
"So, where was your last assignment? Looking forward to having you here and on the senior staff, I hope you are ready to speak up and not just be a yes-man" smiled Anthony, as he took his seat and took a sip of his drink.
"Thank you." Artorius began, sipping from his glass before beginning. "My last assignment was the Sovereign." He explained. "She's been recalled for decommissioning sadly."
Artorius took another sip of his drink. "As for being a yes man...well, I've never been known to be one of those. Besides, it would go against personal pride if I started to." He joked, giving Captain Richards a sly smile.
“That’s good because I want a staff who I can trust and staff who are not afraid to speak up. You have ideas and opinions and I don’t want to see them stifled. We work together and I make final decisions based on everything I have read and heard, so don’t be worried about not speaking up, you are part of the team” Anthony responded, he always asked questions like that and really wanted to hear the answer, it wasn’t just to make conversation.
