Here Comes The Cavalry

Posted on Thu Jun 6, 2019 @ 1:16pm by Captain Anthony Richardson

Mission: All In A Day's Work
Location: USS Excalibur, Deck 1, Main Bridge
Timeline: Mission Day 3 at 0700

As the plane came into view, Anthony sat in his seat on the bridge and just looked. He had capable officers who were very good at what they did, they were the best of the best; as he put it Nothing would stop them in their quest to get to sorting out the mess that was going to confront them when they reached the surface. It was important that they were aware of the outcomes, and that had been reported throughout the last 30 or so hours. Shuttles were being prepared and ready for launch, the teams would begin the transport down to the surface.

The first step was to ensure that the outpost on the surface knew of their arrival. Once they were in better range, the operations officer on duty spoke up; “Sir, I have the outpost hailing us, we are in full range now. I say 10 minutes for shuttles to make their way down”

“Start the launches and put the outpost on screen, please” Anthony replied, even in this situation, manners were still needed.

Up on the screen appeared a young woman; “Captain Richardson, so nice of you to be here, we have a problem,” she said.

“What's the matter Lieutenant?” he asked

“Well, about 7 hours ago, we have a report of some distress in one of the low-lying villages on the planet, so Commander Emerson and a security team headed off to see what was going on. We had check-ins with them for a few times, but two hours ago, we lost all contact with them. I fear the Klingons may have sneaked in and captured them, or they have been kidnapped by rebels, it's a region we use to have trouble with years ago” she said, her voice trembling a bit

“We will be right down, I’ll have my Executive Officer head down to that area and start investigating. Best in the business in my eyes” replied Anthony, he knew this would take away from the business of securing the outpost and sorting out the safety of the people living on the planet, but this was important.

Anthony made a mental note to inform Commander Murphy to take on this task, and get his own team formed for it. It would be a good chance for him to flex his command muscles. It would give him a chance to see how well his new Number one handled pressure and leadership.

“Is there anything else?” He asked

“That’s the major problem, we have many injuries from personnel and civilians, we are trying our best. Is your Chief Medical Officer sure they can help us?” Asked the Lieutenant.

“I have complete confidence in my whole crew, we have shuttles already beginning their departure from the ship, I’ll be down very shortly myself to start coordination with you and your team, and begin anything that we need to do to stabilise the outpost and the civilian infrastructure”

“Thank You, Captain. We couldn’t be doing this without you” she replied, a little bit uneasy. There seemed to be something else waiting to be discussed.

Anthony sat there, he wondered if it would come up. What he had read. It didn’t seem to be coming into the conversation, maybe it was something he had to discuss when they found Commander Emerson, but either way, it was something that would blow the whole operation wide open. Anthony opted to keep it to himself for the time being.

“I’ll be done in about 20 minutes, my teams will start their assignments and start beaming down straight away. Shuttles are on their way. Excalibur out”
