Mission: Do You Remember?
Location: USS Excalibur, Deck 18, Main Shuttlebay
Timeline: Mission Day 1 at 1530

[Starbase 45 - Shuttlebay 2]

Noah Maritz received the PADD that contained his new assignment: Chief Security/Tactical Officer aboard the USS Excalibur. He'd heard good things about the Captain, the crew and the ship itself, so he wasn't really complaining with this particular posting. Stowing everything he had in his life; three large duffel bags into one of the free compartments, Noah stepped onto the shuttle and took an available seat and waited for the shuttle to take off.

[Deck 18 - Main Shuttlebay]

The small shuttle landed a bit uneasily and Noah stood to get his belongings. Stepping off, he found the transporter chief and gave his transfer orders, "Ensign Noah Maritz, reporting in as ordered. I'm the new Chief Security/Tactical Officer, and I'm just waiting for clearance on my companion to come through on the transporter PADD." The chief gave him a raised eyebrow and weird look, to which Noah replied, "My working dog. She's red, white and full of energy.. and looks mean enough to scare people."

"Righto, sir." The chief gave him a nod, "When he comes through, I'll be sure to send him your way with one of my guys here." He laughed and just shook his head: he'd been around dogs for most of his life and nothing about them really fazed him anymore.

[One Hour Later]

Noah had finished setting up his quarters by putting the old style photo of him and his siblings on the side table with the chain that held the engagement ring he'd given Tiana five years previously. A moment of reflection was all he got before the chime of the door brought Noah back to reality. "Come in!" he called out and the door opened.

"Sit." A Petty Officer was standing at the door holding a blue lead that connected to a red and white Siberian Husky who was patiently following the PO's orders and sitting patiently. "Sir, I was instructed that as soon as we got this dog aboard, I was to bring it straight to you."

Noah took the lead and started ruffing the fur up on the dogs chest, grinning and making affectionate sounds, "First off, thank you for bringing her down. She does have a name, and that is Siku (see-ku). It means ice. And secondly, I hope she hasn't caused too many dramas for everyone when she got here?" Noah had already been knocked over and Siku was happily sitting in his lap thinking that she was a lot smaller, but he wasn't complaining.

"No sir, no problems at all. She was extremely well behaved and didn't try to drag me anywhere on the way here either. Probably too friendly: wanted attention from anyone who looked her way." The Petty Officer commented, moving in the door further and not taking his eyes off the dog in front of him. "What's your secret to her being so... I don't know what the word is?"

"Obedient? Attentive? Loveable? Just always treat them with the same respect you would any other animal. Quite a number of hours have gone into training her I will admit, and when it comes to being on the job I consider her my partner and my equal." Noah responded. "Plus she picks up on a lot of body language too. But thank you again for bringing her down, I appreciate it. I've got some plans in store for the Security department, so check back in at a later stage and we'll see what we can do about getting you two more acquainted." Siku looked up at the petty officer happily and made him smile. "But I do believe you should probably be getting back to work now, am I right?"

Snapping out of his fascination with the dog, the Petty Officer straightened up and listened to what Maritz had said, "Yes sir, you're right. I've got a few more errands to run before I clock off for the day." He bent down again and patted her on the head gently before turning and leaving the room with a swish of the door.

Looking down at the dog in his lap Noah sighed, "Ah, I guess I'm stuck with you again, huh." He flashed a playful smile and proceeded to play fight with her as she started barking and yipping and carrying on until they were both out of breath and tired. "This is our new home for quite a while now, don't make me send you back home to dad." He watched her tilt her head at the acknowledgement. "Good girl, now time for a nap."
