Do You Remember?
Location: USS Excalibur, Deck 1, Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: Mission Day 2 at 1200
Anthony had sat in his ready room for the last hour, on his own. He had locked the doors and was not letting anybody in. This was not for any other reason, but he needed the time to formulate the plan, how they were going to get this done. They had a major objective, it was an objective Anthony had hoped he would never have to undertake, but here it was.
There was a low hum around the room, Anthony had put some music on in the room to drown out the silence that there was, the silence that he didn’t want to have right now. There was just some classical music playing in the background of his mind. The music stopped for a moment and then another song started...
His brother-in-law needed to come in, they had to bring him down. Anthony knew that Nate would be doing the same if the shoe was on the other foot, but even then, he knew that the emotion of this might be something that people would question. Anthony had to take the emotion out of this assignment. Even with the objective being what it was, emotion could not play a part. He knew that if push came to shove, that to bring Nate in, he would cede control over to his Executive Officer.
That was sitting at the top of the PADD, to ensure that if emotions did boil over or that Anthony felt it was not going to happen, his Executive Officer would take over control of the mission. He knew that he would determine that, and Anthony hoped that in the spur of the moment, that he would not question it. It was one moment... one moment out of thousands. Could he accept the decision?
As the Excalibur sped at high warp to the last known location that they had with the intelligence on what Nate’s plans were, and what Admiral Eastwood had given him, Anthony knew that there had to be a weakness, he just knew it. Nobody was perfect, Nate was human after all. He tapped a few buttons on the terminal connected to his desk and up popped some photos of the family. He looked at it. Nate and him sitting around, with a drink each. It must had been a photo of the last family gathering that they had. It was a good time, that was five years ago.
Anthony made a note that when they had Nate back when they had his sister and niece back that they would have another family gathering. A special one. He knew that they had to achieve their objectives here, not just him, but the whole crew. Failure was not an option today.
